Good News for January 6th

Our parish was blessed with a presentation by artist Kate Capato at the 8am and 10am Masses on Sunday. She presented the painting and shared a bit of the “back story“. The price of the painting is $5000 (discounted for our Parish by the artist) and we are making progress towards the goal. Interested in sharing some of your stimulus money? Mark the envelope or check with “Art Fund” and it will be used in that way. Please share any other feedback on the painting of its potential placement in our Church with Father Chris.

In addition, our Parish will host a Prayer Service (you are welcome to gather in Church or through Live Stream) on Sunday, January 17th from 5pm to 6:30pm in our Church. This Prayer Service will allow our larger community to appreciate the beautiful Conversation Groups that took place on various topics surrounding race in 2020. You are also encouraged to join us for a zoom based Reading Group on Monday, January 18th from 10am until Noon as we read and discuss selected writings of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please sign up in advance so we can send you material to read (or listen to) to maximize our time together. All are welcome!

Plan to be with us as we March for Life on January 23rd in Philadelphia. Enough is enough! More information HERE!

As we move through the long season of this pandemic, we must keep our young people connected to the Good News of the Gospel. Please share this TEACHING FROM LISA ELDRIDGE for Baptism of the Lord Sunday and be sure to download the handout as well so our young disciples will remain in a place of grace!

Happy Feast of Saint Raymond on January 7th. Celebrate our beloved Patron Saint by learning more about him HERE or HERE. Please consider joining us for 8am Mass in the Church (and staying to pray the Rosary after Mass).

Are you making a New Year’s resolution? Maybe joining Father Chris is losing 20 pounds (the annual physical went well…except that “ideal weight” part)? Here are a few suggestions from the Pastor: (1) Pick up and read the book I Heard God Laugh and make a commitment to daily prayer (essential is we are going to live as disciples of Christ). (2) Use our St. Raymond App each day: download myParishApp to your tablet or phone; find St. Raymond Church, Philadelphia and then begin enjoining the many opportunities for prayer and reflection. (3) Remain committed to being part of our effort to move through this difficult COVID Season by remaining committed to the WORSHIP of God each weekend (live or thru Live Stream), becoming more EQUIPPED to live the Christian Life through what you study and read, INVITING others to join us at Saint Raymond, and by SHARING what you have with the Church and others. Do New Year’s Resolutions actually work?

Are you getting the vaccine when it is offered to you? What information do you still want to know? Join us for two webinars that will address a great variety of issues around the vaccines being offered. These sessions (each covering a different topic) will be a Webinar through ZOOM (and streamed to Father Chris’ Facebook as well) on consecutive Wednesday evenings: January 20th and January 27th from 7pm to 8:30pm. Each session will be unique: different panelists, different topics. Panelists will include parishioners (and friends of the parish) who are physicians, medical ethicists, public health experts and leaders in vaccine development. You are welcome to submit your comments, concerns or questions ahead of time to Father Chris. Please spread the word and invite others!
