The Season of Advent

At weekend Masses on December 1st and 2nd, we will join Christians throughout the world as we begin the four weeks of Advent that are given to us as a way of preparing for Christmas.  Advent is a time in which we “prepare the way of the Lord” through prayer, spiritual reading, acts of charity and kindness and making time for reflecting on life and our call to holiness.  While the Sacred Scriptures of Advent will recall the prophets who “prepared” for the coming of Christ among the nation of Israel, it is also a time for us to commit to being “prepared” for the day of judgment when we will stand before the throne of Christ – seeking the glory of heaven that has been prepared for those who were faithful to the call of God.

St. Raymond offers the following opportunities for spiritual growth during Advent:

  • Mass Monday-Thursday and Saturday at 8am, Saturday Vigil Mass at 5pm and Sundays at 10am
  • First Saturday Morning of Reflection on Saturday, Decemeber 1st (8am until 11am; no charge; gather in the Chapel)
  • St. Raymond School Christmas Show (Pre-K thru Grade 4) at 7pm in the Church.  Let the children help us prepare the way…
  • Festival of Praise on Thursday, December 13th at 7pm (in Church) – a time of prayer and praise as we adore the Lord in imitation of the shepherds and magi!
  • Confessions will be heard on Sunday, December 16th from 2:30pm to 3:30pm in the Church and on Monday, December 17th from 7pm to 8pm at St. Athanasius Church on Limekiln Pike.  Fr. Chris is available for confession before Mass on Saturday and Sunday and anytime by appointment.  Need help preparing for confession?  Try this….
  • Christmas Cantata on Sunday, December 23rd at 6pm – an Evening of Song and Lessons as we prepare to celebrate the Birth of Christ Jesus.  All are welcome to join us in the Church; free will offering for our care of the poor.
